The Kansas Advisory Council on Civil Rights (KACCR) was organized in 1959. A volunteer organization, its mission was to act as a link between communities and the Kansas Commission on Civil Rights. The group dissolved in 1973. The collection includes records of Council Chairman Ruth Shechter, meeting minutes and administrative records, as well as newspaper clippings and collected material regarding civil rights and fair housing. Much of the material relates to the Shawnee Mission Housing Council (SMHC) and greater Kansas City.
